Cheryl Cole's Cannes debut

Cheryl Cole made her Cannes debut not on the red carpet, but on the stage. She was the guest of honour at the de Grisogono party at the Hôtel du Cap Eden Roc, where, in between arriving in a stunning Roberto Cavalli dress and performing for the gathered celebrity crowd — which included Paris Hilton, Naomi Campbell and Lionel Richie — she received a set of earrings and a bracelet from the jeweller.

Paradis does Langerfeld bash

Hello, Johnny! The Pirates of the Caribbean star and his partner Vanessa Paradis finally put in a Cannes appearance at the Chanel/Madame Figaro party on Tuesday night. The couple live in France with their two children (when they're not on their private Caribbean island, of course). Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld was on hand to dish out style advice and honour Paradis, who is the face of the French label's new lipstick, as well as appearing on the cover of May's Madame Figaro magazine photographed by Lagerfeld, naturellement.

Paparazzi free parties!

It was the kind of bash where you can just forget about being cool. As someone put it: "I've been to some parties in my life, but Jesus... this is something else..."

Welcome aboard the Octopus, Microsoft founder Paul Allen's superyacht and the location of the most star-studded gathering at the Cannes Film Festival. It was the final port of call after an unprecedented night of celebration along La Croisette.

The guests, fuelled by pink and white champagne, dined at sushi bars, with waitresses dressed in kimonos.

Cannes juror Kate Beckinsale looked amazing in floor-length pink silk, while Meg Ryan wore a simple black trouser suit as she tapped her feet to the band's tunes.

Kevin Spacey was bear-hugging Benicio del Toro as if they were recreating a scene from The Usual Suspects. Dominic Cooper, star of Mamma Mia!, was cutting shapes on the dancefloor. Others having fun included Lady Victoria Hervey.

Meanwhile in an even more exclusive location a few miles down the coast from the main action, guests partied in the vast gardens of Hôtel du Cap Eden Roc d'Antibes.

The villa, a hideaway for celebrities since the Fifties, is valued for its secrecy and the closest the paparazzi can get is floating off the cliffs near the diving boards. Here, at the Charles Finch dinner for his publication Finch's Quarterly, were Glenn Close, Mick Jagger and L'Wren Scott who was looking spectacular in fuchsia pink.
